The Higher the Magnification - The More Detail You'll See

Magnification is the ability of your microscope to make small objects seem larger. As the magnification increases the area being viewed will be decrease is size but the detail of the area being viewed will improve.

Amscope microscopes come with multiple magnifications to aid you in finding the proper magnification for viewing each specimen.

Camera Connection Types

When comparing 2.0 and 3.0 there are few major differences. First the transfer rates. USB 2.0 offers transfer rates of 480 Mbps and USB 3.0 offers transfer rates of 4.8 Gbps - that's 10 times faster.

Camera Resolution

The most important factor in ensuring successful microscopic imaging is choosing the appropriate optics and camera for your application that gives you more data and higher image quality. When selecting a microscope camera, it is best to base your decision on the most important requirements for your microscopic observation.

This digital microscopy system includes a T490B trinocular microscope and a 5MP USB2.0 color digital camera. It is an ideal laboratory instrument for clinics, Vets, Doctors, and professional students. The T490B features a unique "simul-focal" optical system with an adjustable trinocular port to enable well-focused clear images on your computer or video screen while simultaneously obtaining sharp, focused images through the eyepieces. Most trinocular microscopes allow you to view either through the trinocular port or the eyepieces only, forcing you to switch between the two. Since these trinocular ports are not "simul-focal" with the rest of the microscope optical system, you have to re-focus the microscope after each switch. The T490B, however, erases this step by providing simul-focal viewing. Especially handy for teaching demonstrations, clinical examinations and laboratory applications, the "simul-focal" feature allows your students, patients or colleagues to view clear images simultaneously while you work through the eyepieces. In addition, the T490B's industry standard 23mm photo port and C-Mount adapter allow you to attach most microscope digital cameras and video systems on the market. The T490B includes a 30-degree inclined 360-degree swiveling, compensation-free trinocular head, a 3D mechanical stage, and an intensity-variable 20W Halogen illumination system.

The 5MP digital camera captures still images and video, and allows you to view a live stream on your PC. With software available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, it's a multi-platform imaging solution. The included Windows software offers image-development and measurement tools, as well as advanced compositing features such as image-stitching and extended-depth-of-focus. Independent preview and capture resolutions allow you to view high-speed video while capturing high-definition images. For Mac, there is a lite version with limited processing features.

This microscopy system is perfect for teaching demonstrations, clinical examinations and laboratory applications.

Great value compound microscope

Considering the price, this microscope performs very well. It is made of solid metal construction and focus mechanism works well with no creep. The stage controls also work well and allow you to position the specimen accurately. Considering the price point the Optics are surprisingly good with clear images with good resolution even at the higher magnifications using the X100 oil immersion objectives. Clearly the optical performance is not as good as you would get from the likes of Zeiss or Leica but just one of their Plan Apo objectives would cost several times the price of this entire microscope. The 5MP camera that was bundled with the microscope also works well and it is easy to set up on the trinocular port with the 0.45 reduction lens to give simul-focal images with all the objective lenses. You will need a different photo port adapter if you want to use a C-mount camera as the standard adjustable port is too long without a reduction lens). 5MP is really all you need and is fine for my applications (microscopic examination of plant, fungi and invertebrates as part of my biological recording activities)
Only small negative is the tungsten lamp has a very warm colour and gives a yellow cast on the images but this is easily corrected with the white balance on the camera software. It would probably be an improvement if it had an LED light source.
The software works fine even though it is an older version due to the need for compatibility the MA500 series camera supplied in the bundle. Z-stack function is not as good as freeware like CombineZP. I found that it creates too many image artefacts but it is a bonus to have it in the capture software.
To get the most from this product you need some experience of using compound microscopes and imaging software. If not, find a good book or go on a training course. The email support is very responsive but seem to lack in-depth product knowledge
This microscope does everything I need it to do and at this price point I don’t think you will find anything else comes close
